i've built such a cute and cuddly nest!!

i made such a fun and cheap find last week that i have to share it with you all!! i bet it's something that everyone already knows, but since i was in the dark, i will assume that there may be someone else out there who is as well. i was browsing target's site last week and found the most adorable sheets - cream colored with red snowflakes.

random.

but i've always wanted holiday sheets!! when i was younger, i used to get my mom's potter barn catalog in the mail before she could read it so i could see the pretty holiday sheets and think of how cool it would one day be to have my own christmas sheets!!

so i saw an adorable sheet set for $19.99 and almost peed on myself with excitement. yes, that's even the price for california king!! i can't even get a king-sized pillowcase set for under $50 that's really really soft at bed, bath, and beyond!! the sheets had a few great reviews, so i said, "what the heck...it's not that much!!" i also found a more expensive red snowflake quilt and pillow set, and i went for it. the total of that was still less than what i pay for sheets at b,b&b!!

they arrived yesterday, and i dolled up the bed to surprise james. it's seriously really cute, and the sheets are OMG, OH SOOOO COMFY!! i'm a big sleeper, and love my comfortable jammies, sheets, and blankets. these sheets are the softest sheets i've ever slept in, and i think everyone should go out and treat themselves to this cheap indulgence!!

i'm addicted!!

juuuust whistle while i look for work!!

in this fabulous economy and time of low low low unemployment rates, it's been oh so fun looking for a job!!

james is happy with me being at home ("now you could be a stay at home mum!"), i'm getting kinda cramped and ready to get back out in the working world after my really fun honeymoon and taking care of my little cousin all last week.

if you're aware of any opportunities in the hr or recruiting world, please don't hesitate to let me know!!

hugs!!

honeymoon update: week 2!!

sunday - we decided that this would be our day off!! we stayed in and watched football all day. woohoo!!

monday - james and i went snorkeling back at kapalua beach. unfortunately, the water was choppy, and we saw the crazy stalker fish again! i felt sick, it started to rain, we went back early and i tried to feel better and we watched the sunset.

tuesday - james got me dramamine, so i took it all day but didn't totally feel better. walked to lunch, randomly found a japanese restaurant using some new app on james' iPhone. they served appetizers, and we had fun trying things from tempura to ribs to oysters to cow tongue.

wednesday - we drove up to haleakala in the morning and i felt slightly better. i wasn't feeling the best, and that was with the dramamine. it was super cold at the top of the mountain and totally awesome views. it was interesting to look at all the clouds from above!! and a few moving through you. i slept on the way home from the drugs and we relaxed and watched the sunset again on the beach. this time, i jumped in the ocean in my clothes, and it was so much fun!! it's really nice and warm, no matter what time of day. :)

thursday - we tried to snorkel at the first spot, but it was totally choppy, and lots of crap in the water like leaves/tree branches so went to the best beach and relaxed. i love the way it sounds when we're snorkeling!! it's like rice krispies (or rice bubbles as aussies say) in the ocean!!

oh, and i love all the fresh fruit here!! the pineapple is unbelievable - like dried pineapple since it's so sweet. i also like the star fruit. it's like a pear, apple, and orange had a baby. hee hee!!

friday - hung out at wailea beach, saw 007, and ate at a thai place right next to the movie theaters. it was nice to relax today before we're off!!

saturday - took the ferry back to ouahu and filed the police report for james' camera and enjoyed one more night at the moana surfrider!! i'm so spoiled!!

oh, and i can't remember if i wrote about this in my last blog entry, but be careful of the ferry in hawaii!! it says it's leaving at 6:30, but it always leaves half an hour early. get there an hour and a half before it leaves, so you can check in and get a good seat on the ferry. i really don't understand how it's so hard to leave on-time or just change the time on the tickets. i'm sure i'm not the first to encounter this...

all in all, james and i totally loved hawaii!! it's weird to be back now and wearing socks for the first time in a few weeks. luckily it's not cold or rainy here yet, so it's not like our last big trip when we came back from australia with great tans, and it was super cold and wet. a nice slow transition into reality is always nice!!

i'm trying to write a quick bit about our first week in hawaii that hopefully has some good notes about what we're doing and actually makes a little sense!! please forgive my crappy writing/spelling as i'm just trying to get out all the information on our fun week!! :) oh, and i'll update about the wedding reception in just a bit.

we started our journey on the plane, and were told that we got to play a game while on the flight. "oh boy," i thought, "scrabble for 300." the captain got on the intercom and told us we'd be estimating the time (in local hawaii time) we'd be at the geographic mid-point of the flight. he gave us the time we left, approximate time we'd arrive, speed we were traveling, and the air resistance we were experiencing. james busted out his iphone to take advantage of the calculator, and took some time in making his calculations. a guy next to me spent about 20 minutes on his, and i looked down at the paper and thought, "i'm just going to go with an average given the starting and ending time." that got me around 9:50 or 9:55, and i thought i should guess 9:53 cause 3 is my lucky number. we also had to add in seconds, so i put 30, just cause it was the middle. we turned in our papers, and while i didn't get the closest, i was the second closest!! the woman who got first was 15 seconds off, and i was 17 seconds off!! so much for james and his so-called "math" skills. hahahahahahah!! i did end up winning a gift certificate for hilo hattie that i still haven't been inside of....

we arrived to warm weather ("perfect" as our pilot stated) and then we were off to the moana surfrider. um hello, this is the most amazing resort i've ever been to!! it's small compared to others located around us, but is beautiful and stands out as THE place you want to be at. there are large rocking chairs on the porch, so you can sit, rock, and watch the world go by. the lobby is opened up (no windows or doors) and full or large comfy chairs. the back has nice comfy chairs and tables along with a restaurant, bar, pool, and private part of the beach reserved for guest and an umbrella and beach chairs. we had an ocean view room, and it was incredibly comfortable with a beautiful view. i loved the sound of the ocean at night, too. juuust perfect. :)

sunday - i believe we just spent today swimming and walking around, checking out the shops.

monday - we drove around a ton of oahu and found a random beach and cool rock pool. we hung out for bit hear and got to hear the monday morning tsunami warning. let me tell you, it's REALLY REALLY loud. :) after that, we drove down to check out the uss missouri. i was super duper tired by the end of walking around this huge battleship, but it was awesome to see the place where WWII ended.

tuesday - breakfast downstairs at the moana (soooo delicious and right next to the ocean), trip to monoa falls. it's the perfect little hike, not too short - not too long. then grabbed a drink at the coffee bean since we were dripping hung out at the ocean and pool again. i did some shopping, and grabbed dinner to go so james could watch the election results. i got a text as the sun was setting and the whole sky was pink. great news and a beautiful moment near honolulu (where obama's grandma lived). i am so proud to be an american.

wednesday - early trip on ferry to maui. we barely made it on in time since they told us it would leave at 6:30, but we actually left at 6. it took us 3 hours, and we had a little nap, got some food, and sat and watched the sunset on the beach once we arrived. got a nice walk in after as it slowly got dark.

thursday - we rented snorkel gear for a week - $25 for fins/mask/snorkel, and great directions to a spot not many go to. james taught me how to use everything, and even dive down to see the very bottom. we saw maybe 20 different types of fish and freaked out at each one. i love snorkeling, and may never come back to the bay area!!

friday - snorkeling again and i saw a three legged turtle!! well, james saw him and we followed him as he swam away from the crowd. it was unreal to swim with him, and i hope that he's doing well without a leg!! we also checked into a cute b&b. it's called kai's bed and breakfast, and it's slightly different that a normal b&b. we have a nice place with a small fridge, sink, microwave, and kitchen area, but breakfast consists of a few muffins, fruit, and sunny d delivered in a basket the night before. not really the "breakfast" one's given while staying at a b&b, but it's nice and quiet when the dog and rooster aren't waking you up at dawn. :) i think it's nicer than the hotel we were just staying at. it doesn't get as hot, and has free washing/drying, beach towels, sunscreen, snorkeling gear.

saturday - snorkeling again...surprise surprise!! we went to this beach: and apparently it was voted THE best beach in the US. it was super hard to find, but james was a great looker, and driver!! once we got on the beach, i knew this was going to be fun. we put our feet in in water, and a fishie swam up to us!!! omg!! it was the clearest water ever, and a fishie actually swam up to our toes!!

we put our snorkeling gear and hopped in the water!! i freaked out when i saw i rock jump in the sand!! i thought my eyes were fooling me, so i looked down at this rock, and then noticed he had red and yellow fins!! i got so excited that i tapped james on the shoulder, spit out the mouthpiece, and swallowed a ton of sea water. i finally told him that there was a rock fish and it jumped for us a bit more!! we saw like 6 new fishies this time, and the water was so clear and the beach was pretty small and private. all perfect except for a STALKER fish!! OMGOMGOMG!! this greenish fish with white polka dots and weird fins that made circular motions while he swam was our friend at first. we had never seen a fish like this before, and he just sort of hung out with us. but i slowly grabbed james' hand, and swam behind him cause that fishie was scaring the crap outta me. he followed us everywhere, even when james tried to make him go away without touching him. we finally hadn't seen him in a minute or two, and decided to hop out since we had been swimming for a while. i felt something odd behind me as we were getting out of the surf, and i turned around. oh hello...that crazy ass fish was behind us!!!!! i totally screamed and james came to my rescue again!! i got my fins off and got outta that ocean!! james said that fish was being all nuts and he hopped out as well. i still had a blast at that unreal area to snorkel, and i'm sure i'll be out there again soon.

here's a link that james and i have worked on to show others our fun times and cool spots we've found!! i've tried to write details about parking for snorkeling spots, and we were very specific about where we placed the markers. hopefully it's helpful to anyone else going in the future, or for us when we return!! here it is!!

this weekend was a ton of fun, and flew by a bit faster than i expected! on saturday james, erik, and i went to the cal game. i felt so badly because i was really craving a pretzel, so i asked james to get up when the game felt like it was dragging on and on. of course that's when cal decides to get all fancy and bust out a flea-flicker. james missed it live, but i guess saw it on the tv as he was buying my snack!! hee hee!! sorry!!

after that, we grabbed a lite dinner of salad and garlic bread at tomatina and then headed to deanza college to watch a pink floyd laser show. i know...how random!! james loves pink floyd, and really, why not hang out and watch a laser interpretation inside a planetarium. hehehehhehe!! it was pretty cool, and i'd totally do it again. they have other bands they do shows for like U2 and the beatles, so that will be on my to-do list at some point. :)

yesterday, i started the day with a bagel with james, shona, and kynan, and then off to mani-pedis with shona and the roomies!! such a nice way to pamper yourself, and i decided to go bright pink for the wedding reception, not a boring french manicure. it's my party and i'll pink it up if i want to!! :) after that, we had a very delicious meal at a thai restaurant in downtown mountain view that i haven't tried before. luckily shona's been to thailand like 8 times, so she said this one was the most authentic. it wasn't that spicy even though we did ask for it, but everything was very fresh, and my mouth still tastes like cilantro.

this week, i'm doing a few last minute things for the reception, and then halloween on friday!! i've also got to fit packing for the honeymoon in there, but i know it will all work out!! after saturday's big party, james and i will be gone to hawaii for two weeks!! i'm pretty sure i won't be updating this thing very often, so sorry i'm gone for a bit!! i can't wait for a tropical vacation, and i'm spoiled by james to be gone for so long, and have NO idea what we're doing while we're there!! that boy loves his adventures, and i'm sure i'll have really fun stores when i return.

oh, and what are you all doing for halloween? i think i'm dressing up as linda richman from coffee talk, and having a few friends over for halloween movies/treats. i'm not going all out and having a huge party like i thought i'd try to pull off, just with the reception the next day and all. i've got my halloween candy treat bags ready, and i'm making caramel apples and halloween cupicakes later this week. izze has cute halloween cans, so those are chillin in the fridge, and i'll probably have a few easy snacks for the evening. oh, and i need to carve my pumpakin, but i'm not sure what i want to do yet. hopefully a bit of inspiration comes my way in the next day or two!!

see you all in a bit!!

something that i'll actually watch on tv is sports. of course i'm a huge football/baseball/hockey fan, and i love going to games in person, but something has been different this past year or so. i haven't been excited to watch the a's or giants in person, let alone more than a few innings. the same goes for hockey. i only went to one game last season, as opposed to my usual 10-15.

i still enjoy cal football, and i wonder if it's just because i know they'll never make it to the rose bowl. i have faith in my other teams, and just seem to feel really depressed after they choke in the playoffs. i wonder if i'll ever get back into it like i used to be.

as i mentioned in a previous post, i'm a big halloween nut, and am bouncing that it's coming up!! the apartment and desk were covered in my fun decorations a day or two before october started. gotta get the most use out of it as i can!! :)

i am putting together candy bags, baking halloween cupcakes, and making caramel apples. i was going to have a little par-tay, but thought it might be over the top as my reception is the following day. :) i WAS going to pass out all the goodies at work, but i have just found out that google no longer wants to continue the vendor recruiting program that i was a part of, so i'm out looking for a new job!

it's sort of happy and sad at the same time. i've loved working for google for these past 2 years. i've made amazing friends, eaten foods i've never tried at delicious cafes, and of course, met my wonderful husband here. the opportunity has been great, and on the other hand, i'm a little frightened to throw my resume out there as it seems everyone is being laid off or trying to find something new and exciting.

i'm convinced that something will work out, and until then, i can only do my best to apply apply apply everywhere. i can't wait to see where the next chapter of my life will take place. :)

sounds ah-may-zing!!

sprinkles cupcakes is finally open in palo alto!!

i got 2 dozen and it only took 30 minutes in line!! i was expecting a bit more of a wait with the line we were in, but the staff was super fast with everyone's order.

i won't be eating all of them (darn!!), but i'm sooo excited that a great cupcake shop is so close to me!! but so embarrassed with my excitement, as i ducked every time the camera crews there were filming!!

red velvet, here i cooooooome!!

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

i am totally spoiled at work. i honestly hope that the novelty never wears off that i get to eat the most delicious food!! i tried a new cafe today, and had grilled korean beef, a yummy salad of iceberg lettuce with chipotle ranch dressing, tortilla strips, cheddar, scallions and tomatoes. i also enjoyed a small slice of margherita pizza, some seared ahi, and two california rolls smothered in roe. dessert was some fresh summer fruit and figs filled with orange flower scented mascarpone.

no wonder there are so many people working out in the afternoons.

at least everything is in small servings. i keep telling myself that to justify what i ate today. woohoo!!

p.s. do you also think it's hilarious that my work cafes are listed on yelp? how many people do you think have done a search for a cafe specializing in tapas, and been totally bummed to know they couldn't go in, because it wasn't a restaurant?
*grumble grumble*

i was hoping that my recent surge in jogging was actually getting rid of all pain in my poor little ankles. they haven't been too bad after longer runs, but this cooler weather is totally killing them!! i just want to soak them in a hot tub all day long or ice them (ouch!) to get rid of the aches.

on a happier note, all of my halloween plans are coming together. i was going to host a little par-tay after the goog shindig, but now i'm thinking i may not with oh, you know, the wedding reception being the next day. hahahahahahahahah!! i'm thinking of doing fun candy bags, cupcakes, and caramel apples for everyone instead!! oh, and the cupcakes are going to be soooo outta control!! i can't wait for october so i can actually start decorating our place!! can you tell that halloween is my favorite holiday??

I don't feel the sun's comin' out today
It's staying in, it's gonna find another way.
As I sit here in this misery,
I don't think I'll ever, no lord, see the sun from here.
And oh as I fade away,
They'll all look at me and say, and they'll say,
"Hey look at him, I'll never live that way."
But that's okay, they're just afraid to change.
(change, blind melon)

all right, kiddies. big big changes on my blog today!! for the past 6 years, i've been using a template that jackson was so kind enough to create for me. sorry jax, but it's time for an upgrade. thanks for helping me find the perfect shade of pink years ago!! the old blog was a beauty, but it was time for an overhaul.

i might have a few more minor changes as i add/delete settings. also, all the old comments are gone, so it's time to start over and tell me how you really feel!! :)

ahhhhh, my moment of zen.

Wednesday, September 03, 2008

i've been blogging quite a bit about food lately!! you know what keeps this girl happy!! after a great workout at the gym yesterday (including lots of jumping rope!!), it was off to aldo for dinner. james and i really like this restaurant, and it had been far too long since we had been.

i love aldo, because the fare here is incredibly light and fresh, and lunch/dinner never seem to "sit" with you like some italian places. also, they serve authentic italian food, which i love much more than what the olive garden passes off as bona fide italian. don't get me wrong, i enjoy the food at the OG, it's just not real italian cuisine.

we enjoyed an amazingly fresh caprese salad, and a great bottle of cab sav. i'm so happy that james loves cab sav as much as i do!! he had the lamb, and i had quite possibly the BEST SALMON EVER!! i know, people...get excited!! i had the salmon with lemon infused olive oil, roasted potatoes and sauteed spinach. it was one of the most remarkable meals i've had, and really wonderful after such a hard workout!! of course i had to top it off with the affogato classico. i love love love espresso, and this reminds me of one of my favorite desserts from belgium. espresso + vanilla ice cream + small cafe = love.

such a special night with the man i adore. life is superb. <3

birthday celebration for the boss: strawberry shortcake and champagne with st. germain. THE perfect dessert/adult drink combo on a summer afternoon.

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

i have a confession to make. i went to fentons late last night with james and his friend wanted something sweet after our amazing sushi. yes, people...we drove from mountain view to oakland for ice cream!!

since i was so stuffed and not expecting to fit my normal black and tan in my belly, i thought it would be appropriate to try something small...something i'd never had before!! dun dun DUUUUUN!! i've never actually looked at the bottom of the menu, and found that fentons bakes their own pies!! SOLD!!

i enjoyed the perfect summer treat, fresh peach pie with a huge scoop of vanilla on top. it was sweet and wonderful and everything i had hoped for. if you are a fentons and pie person, i strongly recommend this as your dessert choice next time you're in town.

oh, and james' friend got the banana special. pics to come!!

All I wanna do is (BANG BANG BANG BANG!)
And (KKKAAAA CHING!)
And take your money
(paper planes, M.I.A.)

i am a big moron and forgot to take pictures at the dance. booooooo netters!!

here's a public gallery of the pics from that night. please note that there are none of the cupcake building station which i apparently did not have enough time for. yes, you read that correctly. i was a beer girl all night and had no cupcakes.

i had a blast, and as you can tell, there were about a million and one cool things to keep you entertained. even the shirts had different smiley faces that glowed in the dark!! i'm so easily amused!!

i was of course, the dancing queen. well, except for the beginning when i was keepin tabs on the pool table and enjoying a cold one.

Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C'mon fire me up
Pour some sugar on me
Oh, I can't get enough (def leppard, pour some sugar on me)

oh help me. i have been craving cupcakes all week long, and my urges are getting more intense as my sweet tooth isn't getting any satisfaction!!

this is probably because i found out that sprinkles isn't opening on august 15th!! they're pushing back their opening date until "sometime in september." WORK WITH ME PEOPLE!! I NEED MY CUPCAKES!!

my mommy just got me a really cute tea towel and oven mit to match the adorable apron given to me by my auntie on my wedding day. see below for my surprise for the apron!!

i'm very happy that cupcakes are en vogue, and don't care that some people think they're trendy. i've always loved cupcakes, and love the selection of cupcake items and more cupcake shops opening up!! cupcakes ftw, suckas!!

after much internal debate, i've decided to share my wedding pics online. i wasn't sure i wanted to share these with the world, but then i saw that someone has already used one of my pics for their forum, so whatevs.

here are pics from my special day!! more to come in november, when i have the big ol' reception!!
here's a little online tour of the goog.

my tour is better, cause i'll take you to my favorite cafe for tapas!! also, i won't forget to show you the ball pit. i can never go in there without a giggle-fit which sort of buries me after a while. :)

vegas, (no pregnant pause) baby!!

james and i went to vegas for the 4th of july weekend, and had a blast!! we decided a few days before that weekend that we wanted to do something fun, and found a super cheap, yet really nice room at mandalay bay!! the only problem was the flights were uber expensive. james jumped at the chance to drive, so i booked tickets for O on saturday night and we were off!!

i couldn't believe that there were so many things available for us at the last minute, and we were able to do so many fun things!! the drive over wasn't too bad!! we didn't hit any traffic on friday, and we were able to keep ourselves entertained without too much radio, or even our iPods. we are goobers. i had never been to vegas before (i know, i know), so it was great when we arrived and there were so many things to do around us.

our room at mandalay bay was on the 33rd floor, and super nice. i totally recommend this hotel to anyone who hasn't stayed there before. it was totally spacious, comfy beds, and had a huge sweet bath. we were also located on the side of the hotel that had a concert going that night, the pools, and mandalay bay's own private fireworks. instead of joining tons of drunks on the hot strip, james and i stayed in our super high up, air-conditioned room for 20 minutes of fireworks courtesy of mandalay bay. it was awesome!!

the first night, we played a little roulette. it was slightly more boring than i thought, and we didn't have too much luck there. james started in a poker tournament, but left after he remembered the fireworks would start soon. hee hee!! i played some "pokies" as james calls them, (or slots as us yanks say) the next day. i didn't do so well at mandalay bay, but had more fun than playing roulette. the money didn't go so fast this time!! i actually broke even at the bellagio, so i was happy enough with that. :)

on saturday, we hung out at the wave pool and cafe outside for most of the day. don't worry, we had our spf 50 on!! i didn't burn, but did get a nice tan through it. that night we saw O at the bellagio, and it was so much fun!! we had great seats, and i loved the different things everyone was doing in the water. i'm not a huge cirque du soleil fan, but watching swimmers dive, fly, and hold their breath with the water theme was so incredible!!

sunday was our day of driving back home. or should i say james' day of driving back home. poor guy drove both ways since we took his car and i don't know how to use stick. he was pretty sick the whole next week, and then i ended up getting it this week. BOOOOOO!!

all in all, vegas was pretty fun, but it did have it's random people and moments. the crowds were different in the casino depending on what was going on at the time. it got weird and rowdy before some dumb ufc fight, and skanky when the beach crowd went inside after too much sun. i guess there's a lot that goes down in vegas, and i feel like now that i've been there, and don't have to go back for a long long time. i'd rather be on the beach relaxing with less people, or up in the mountains. vegas is different, that's for sure, but not my style. i told james i had more fun last weekend when we played skee-ball and then mini-golf. i guess i can relax a bit more when there's less people around and i feel like i'm not throwing money away gambling. i'd much rather spend that money on shoes or a nice handbag!! :)

i cannot get over betsey johnson's fun and funky style!! it's amazing how she has so many interesting pieces, that you can't help but fall in love with some. i love her jewelry, shoes, dresses, damn, even her socks and leggings are adorable!! so many fun details, like bows on leggings and bright pink shoe boxes. i really want her to be my long lost crazy aunt, so i don't have to buy any more cute items!!

my new favorite treat:

per 15 ounces, the vanilla flavor has 146 mg of caffeine. to compare, a can of coke has 40 mg and redbull has 80. this stuff tastes amayzing, and i can't believe how few grams of sugar it contains for how sweet it tastes. it also has vitamins which means i'll never have to eat food again.

you've got to read the most hilarious review about it here.

i have a husband!!

i know, it shouldn't come as a shock to me as i did get married a few weeks ago, but I HAVE A HUSBAND!!

my newly married friends say that sometimes it takes a month or so for this new label to set in.

right now, for the first time, it honestly seems to feel semi-normal to say that i have a husband. which translates to, "it's not totally weird to say i'm married."

it's such a great feeling!!

it's funny how things seem to work out in the end. during the time when you're going through a stressful situation, you ponder and hope for one specific outcome. just knowing in your head that YOU seem to know the answer and YOU know how it should all play out.

i remember being incredibly frustrated when i interviewed at my current employer with how long the process was taking, and the amount of interviews and teams i had to meet. i'm so glad that i didn't give up, because shortly after i started, i met the man of my dreams.

at the time, i was about to give up and tell everyone to forget it, but part of me really wanted this job. i'm happy that i stuck with it and was bounced around from team to team during the interview process and pushed a bit for the team i liked the most. james never would have walked by my desk, and i never would have had hearts in my eyes ever since. awwwwwww!! <3

i'll update with deets and pics of the wedding soon, i promise. :)

my baby got a promotion!!

after a recockulously long wait, james finally heard the news yesterday that his promotion went through!! i was seriously bouncing in my seat at work when i heard, and dealing with 5 fires at the same time. totally comical!!

since he's such a good guy, i treated him to dinner at sundance steakhouse. i TOTALLY recommend this place for special dinners. it was a perfect night: amazing service, outstanding food, and hopefully a fun treat for my baby!!

WOOHOO!!

i just had one of the most productive and fun weekends!!

i got friday off for a floating birthday holiday, and it was sooooo nice to hang out with james. he took me out to lunch in burlingame, then candy shopping!!! i bought lots of yummy treats and we were off to sf to the legion of honor. we had a blast scoping out picassos, monets, manets, dalis, etc. the annie lebovitz exhibit was also there and was pretty blah. too many people wandering around, and not enough of her amazing work was showcased. a big boooo to that exhibit.

after that, i got to take a quick nap at home!! i haven't had a nap in forever, and it felt sooo wonderful!! i also snuck in some reading, and then it was off to the cheesecake factory!!

saturday was my bday celebration with the fam, my dad's bday celebration, and mother's day. we went out for brunch for my mom, out to the movies and the bbq for my dad, and then had ice cream cupcakes for meeeee!! oh, and lots of presents!! i am totally spoiled!!

on sunday, we did a bit of shopping, some relaxing, and finally some scrapbooking!! it was so nice to have so much fun and check a million things off of my list at the same time. :)

i had the most fabulous weekend with my girls!!

it was my bachelorette party, and holy cow did i have a blast!! i walked into dres' place on saturday to hear, "going to the chapel" blaring through the speakers!! and there were the cutest pink decorations everywhere!! poor dres probably hated me for those 2 days that her apartment was covered in pink!!

we started off with pomegranate martinis while everyone congregated and got things ready for our picnic. the weather was beautiful for sf, and it was so nice to hop right across the street for lots of wine, cheese, bread, pasta, and my girls!! oh yes, and at this point, i was wearing one of those bachelorette veils. woohoos from everyone!!

after the picnic, we skipped over to get our nails and brows done. it was such a cute and fun place, and this might have been due to the fact that we had lots of wine and champagne while we were there!! when we were done getting girlied up, we headed over to some fun thrift stores for silly clothes for dinner/dancing. i was pretty much set with my black leggings, annoying BRIDE tank, and fun veil, but i needed some flair. i wanted a poofy skirt a la sex and the city, like during the intro where they show carrie, and i found one!! i also found a very happy thrift store employee who liked dry humping me, but that's another story.

dinner was at AsiaSF, and it was ah-may-zing!! the food was incredible and non-stop, drinks were totally girly and exactly what i wanted, and then there were the performances!! totally entertaining, and i suggest anyone wanting to have a ball for their bachelorette go here.

after tons of dancing, and a turn or two on the stripper pole, it was time to retire for the night. we couldn't get a cab outside, but did find a random guy driving a town car that was blaring belinda carlisle, and we knew he was the driver for us. after racing us home and some fun madonna tunes, we hopped out of there, and back to dres'.

we played a quick game of "how well do jeannette and james know each other" which i believe i got all correct except for one. what, what. then roomies brought out funfetti birthday cupcakes for me!! OMG!! i am totally spoiled rotten!! we also opened up some spicy gifts, then started snacking on popcorn while we started movies!! kell had a projector and a large white sheet, so we got to watch pretty in pink and sixteen candles old-school style!!

on sunday morning, we headed off to foreign cinema for breakfast, and it was so delish. we split lots of things, and then had our own breakfast plates. it was so fru-fru and cute and really yummy food. i definitely recommend this place for a more upscale brunch place in the city.

as you can see, i had the most fun-filled weekend, and a really great bachelorette party. i have the best friends in the world!!

my uncle larry passed away monday night after a long fight with cancer.

the sharks played their final game of the series against the calgary flames last night. of course the sharks came out ahead, and played a really intense game.

my uncle larry gave my dad and brother tickets back when the sharks played at the cow palace. i remember they were really crappy their first season, and actually won that night against a very strong team. my brother was hooked on hockey after that night, and got me very excited about it, and hockey quickly became our favorite sport.

i want to thank my uncle larry for all that he gave us while he was here. i found a love for a new sport, learned to love the beach on a cold day, and became skilled at taking care of rose bushes. he will be missed by us all, and i'll always think of him when the sharks pull ahead and win a game that they necessarily shouldn't have.

i love silly little april fool's jokes!! i love how clever people can be with pranks. here are some things that happened at work today!!

our internal listings of everyone here includes phone numbers, email addresses, and pictures. the picture either had a giant moustache or silly sunglasses. mine had a moustache so big it looked like nose hair growing at an incredible rate. are they trying to tell me something?

some of the cafes had fun with the menu, offering things like zebra and dolphin.

also, if you clicked on a certain button in our calendar system, it would populate an entry that said, "date with johnny depp" or "date with another (hot celebrity)." tee hee!!

of course google had fun with a prank of their own.

and you know youtube had to join the fun.

of course i have to now link to silly geek pranks.

what was the best april fool's prank that someone pulled on you, or you got to pull on someone?

You and I oh oh
Shine, shine

Oh great light of love
Oh great light of love
Oh great light of love
Oh great light of love

You come like an answered prayer
Praise God, try to love try to oh
I have the little death delight
Oh I love you
You and I oh oh
Shine, shine (hunger for the great light, dave matthews band)

we're celebrating Earth Hour 2008 right now in our apartment.

it sounds so funny to turn off the lights for just an hour. growing up with a father and grandfather who both worked for pg&e, i'm just used to turning off lights when they're not needed all the time. i guess it's just an excuse to cuddle up with candles tonight. horray!! :)

happy early birthday to one of america's greatest authors!!

Monday, March 24, 2008

i don't think i will ever get tired of baking and decorating funfetti cupcakes. they are without a doubt the greatest cupcakes ever invented. think about it, you're not really making anything since all of the mix comes in a box. you can save your energy for creative ways to decorate!! and then consumption!!

here comes the bride...

i found my wedding dress!! WOOHOO!! i am so happy to get that crossed off of my list, lol!! i think i'm just very lucky (must be the irish!!) because i was able to get everything done so quickly!!

i had heard about a sale at david's bridal, and wasn't too excited because i didn't know about their selection. i went online, found a few i liked, and called to make an appointment. they didn't have any slots available for the next day (who would have thought?!?! ahahahahha!!) but i was put on standby. my mom, auntie, and i arrived right when they opened, and nobody else was there!! i told the lady there which dresses i liked the most, and off we went!!

i think i tried on 6 in total, but really only liked a few before i tried them on. the second one fit perfectly and that was that!! there are no alterations needed, and i found the one that made me the happiest for an amazing price. luckily by the time we were done, tons of girls were there and it was just beginning to become a madhouse. i can see how stressful dress shopping could be, but i'm so pleased that i was able to go in and out so quickly and be incredibly happy with what i found.

since james reads this blog, i am not going to link the dress, but i can let you know which one it is if you contact me. it feels so great to know that i have the perfect dress for me, and that i get to wear it twice!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!! :)

and happy st. patrick's day!! luckily i get corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes at lunch so i won't have to cook that up tonight. geez, i sound like the laziest girl, don't i?? update: they also served beef and guinness stew with car bomb sundaes for dessert. nope, don't have the time to cook those either!! luckily everything came on super small plates, so it really was just a bite or two of food. the corned beef was so tender, with a great cream sauce with harp lager over a few pieces of cabbage. DE-lish!!

When somebody needs you
It's no good unless he needs you - all the way
Through the good or lean years
And for all the in between years - come what may

Who knows where the road will lead us
Only a fool would say
But if you'll let me love you
It's for sure I'm gonna love you - all the way, all the way (all the way, frank sinatra)

my granny turned 21 on friday (she's a leap year baby!!) and caitlin, erik, and i took her out for her first drink!! we went to elephant bar since it was super close to her house, and had tons of girlie drinks ready for consumption. once we sat down, a reporter and photographer for the local paper came up to us, and told her they were doing a story about how she was being taken out for drinks for her 21st birthday!! how cute is that!!

my granny said she never really drank too much, and this would be the first time ordering an adult beverage. the waiter knew it was her 21st, and even asked to see her ID. we had such a blast, and i'll have to post a link to the story once it's published. hee hee!! :)

i start my new job tomorrow, and i'm totally ready to dive back in!! i'll be doing similar work with the same folks, but i'm not sure what building i'll be in. i'm just very excited to be back at work, and in close proximity to james for lunch!! woohoo!!

i also got new glasses last week (so cute!!) along with a new car (vroom vroom!!) so it feels like it's all new beginnings right now, and a new start for me. the weather is nice and warm, which has me feeling like it's spring. a perfect time for a fresh start. :)

if you ever want my daddy to talk your ears off, ask him about 401(k)s. that man knows that stuff like the cookie monster knows cookies.

he provided a bunch of information and some quotes for an article in this month's issue of forbes. you can check it out here.

and seriously, if you ever want to talk to him about how to save, how much to save, what funds are the best...you should give him a call. cause he loooooves talking about saving. :)

I'm a girl and by me that's only great
I am proud that my silhouette is curvy
that I walk with a sweet and girlish gait
With my hips kind of swivelly and swervey

I adore being dressed in something frilly
When my date comes to get me at my place
Out I go with my Joe or John or Billy
Like a filly who is ready for the race
(i enjoy being a girl, peggy lee)

those who know me know that i'm not a big chocolate fan. i do enjoy a chocolate treat once in a blue moon, but i usually pass up any opportunity to eat chocolate. i'm not a real girl, i know. james bought me a really yummy basket from pretzables.com for valentine's day and i have been trying to eat just one item per day so i'm not the biggest piggy ever!! you have to check out their website because my description would do these beautiful pieces of art no justice!!! oh, and their chocolate covered oreos are TO DIE FOR.

and in other sweets news, sprinkles cupcakes will be opening up a store in palo alto this summer!! no more trips to disneyland for delish cuppicakes!! woohoo!!

But don't you change one hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little Valentine stay
Each day is Valentine's day (my funny valentine, frank sinatra)

happy valentine's day!!

i know i've blogged about valentine's day before, but i always think it's a good idea to look at the history behind a holiday to really understand what it is you're celebrating. i can't stand it when i hear guys say that valentine's day was created by hallmark, and that it's a lame holiday. they also say that they should be able to show their love on any day. these are usually (i said USUALLY) the same guys who don't do a thoughtful thing for their woman during the year...so i don't really understand when aaaaaall that lovin occurs.

like i said before, i think it's a good idea to look at where valentine's day originated, and make it your own thing. i'm in love with the legend that valentine was performing secret marriages, jailed, and wrote secret love letters. i go nuts for a romantic story!!

anyway, make valentine's day what you want, i just hope you're able to share it with the one you love.

xoxoxo!! <3

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot,
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.

i've just had a wonderful time down at disneyland earlier this week with james!! i'm really happy that the company ski trip now includes airline tickets down to la, a ticket to disneyland, park open from 7pm-1am for employees only, some free meals, and a hotel room!! i can't even begin to imagine all the work that it took to organize this, but it was a blast!!

we decided to drive down, so we could enjoy sprinkles cupcakes on the way back....muhahahahaha!! :) driving down, james actually had to swerve a few times to avoid tumbleweeds, which made me crack up quite a bit. i think i've seen them before, but they were ALL over 5 on the way down. once we got there, we checked in, and headed over to downtown disney for some dinner at the espn zone. if you're ever in downtown disney and hungry, DO NOT eat here. the food is overpriced (which i expected), but it's totally nasty and bland. and, they charge more for drinks here than at bars in the city. totally lame. i'm not even sure of the whole point of downtown disney, actually. lots of random stores like illuminations, sephora, and some anne geddes shop. it's like a small mall, but there's no exciting shopping. maybe i'm spoiled by malls in the bay area.

anyway, james' hotel roommate, and tons of other people didn't end up going on this trip, which really surprised me. it sounded like almost everyone's roommate ended up not coming, which meant everyone had their own room to themselves. which sounds like an incredible waste of money and time for those who organized the trip. i know there were SEVERAL hotels for everyone to stay at, and if the organizers could have saved half of their resources....but i digress.

february is really the month to go to disneyland if you hate crowds!! i don't think we ever waited more than 15 minutes on a ride!! the weather was beautiful when we were there, and it was only chilly during the evening.

since there were so few people at the park, we ended up getting a table for 8 at the restaurant at the blue bayou (inside of the pirates of the caribbean). we actually walked in and got a table in about 2 minutes. which i hear you usually need to book your reservation a day or two in advance. hahahahahah!! it's sort of over-priced, but the service is wonderful, and it's really a romantic setting when you're inside. my meal was excellent, and it was a nice place to relax and not have screaming kiddies run around.

from 7pm-1am, disneyland and california adventure were only closed for common folk!! actually, since the park was so empty, it was just families that left, and employees took over!! there really was no wait for any of the rides, and you could basically stay in the same seat once the ride was over for most of them. dinner was free, and there were tons of stations set up for free ice cream, snacks, fruit, etc. also, we got to see a really cool fireworks show after dinner was served!!

disneyland had all the free food, and california adventure had the giant party/booze. there were djs, a band, TONS OF BOOZE with long lines, and a run on vodka near the end. we ended up doing tons of rides at disneyland, and then coming over for the party. there were gaming sections, pool tables, but not nearly enough dancing. i guess that's what happens when 70% of the company are dudes, and most are self-proclaimed super geeks.

it was a total blast, and i loved how you felt like a kid, and that the park was open just for you. AND that this isn't just the one company party...but one of several. totally spoiled!!

on the way back, we stopped off at sprinkles for some cuppicakes!!! my only sadness was that there's a cool chocolate cupcake with marshmellow frosting coming out in a few days, and i totally missed it!! other than that, it was a great trip, and a fun mini-vacation!!

Someday we'll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me (rainbow connection, kermit the frog)

i was just reading an article on msnbc.com about how presidential candidates will have their hands full while campaigning in california. we're such a diverse and large state that candidates will have more of a challenge swooning voters.

this quote is from the middle of the article, and made me crack up. with nobody around me. which always makes me feel sort of odd.

“Some parts of San Francisco make California look bad because they are all about saving every spider or whatever,” said Jim Hosp, a Republican who is 48, over a plate of eggs in Napa. “But as far as California goes, we pretty much all get along.”

oh san francisco...could you stop being so pathetic?? just for once??

i remember being super excited when i was at college and found out that there were special roads for the froggies to use!! damn liberal hippies!! stop making california look so soft!!

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

sometimes i wonder why i still blog. i don't like writing into great detail about my personal life, or posting pictures. people who really know me know where to find that. www.jeannettegonewild.com!! hahahahahah, but seriously, i think i still make posts because i like to share my experiences and funny stories i find online. with that in mind, i MUST tell you about my weekend in napa!! which, by the way, was in part to erik's generous gift for james and i. it was a happy engagement/merry christmas present for us to get away for a weekend!! how sweet!! :)

james and i got to escape for the three day weekend, and stayed at the shady oaks inn. it was the cutest bed and breakfast, and i highly recommend the place!! we had a relaxing bathtub, cozy fireplace, and amazing service. jenna cooked us a great breakfast the first morning; stuffed french toast with cinnamon and vanilla. it had a heavenly berry sauce on top, along with sausages, really great coffee, and mimosas. i felt totally spoiled, and loved the food.

jenna is the main reason you should stay at this b&b. she has an incredible knowledge of the whole area, every restaurant, and bartender in the area. you could come to napa with no plans, and she would give you an itinerary based on the things you like. we had several recommendations from her, and they all turned out to be hits. this was unlike the actual owner of the inn, who cooked breakfast for us the second morning, and didn't say more than "hi" and "thanks for stopping by" as she's walking away from us. hey, don't forget that we're you're customers!! :/

so the only plans we had the first night were dinner at terra. i went in knowing that one of james' co-workers really liked the place, and i was super pumped since he's a big foodie. at the inn, there were several journals of entries of people who had stayed in our room, and how they enjoyed certain restaurants. from several years ago, they were going on and on about how great the cod was, and i'm thinking..okay, that's clearly the dish to get since it's still on the menu. i figure, done and done before i even open the menu, but james started talking about how HE wanted to order it. i decided to give the menu a glance to see what else i'd like, cause i didn't want to walk in and have the same dinner.

we started off with the panko crusted oysters and a bottle of judd hill 2003 cab sav. omgomgomg, that was the best wine i've EVER had. (and p.s...you can totally buy this from their winery and bring it in for a corkage fee...it's still less than what we paid for at the restaurant!!) oh, and our server gets extra props for serving me first, and having me taste it since i ordered it. there's nothing i hate more than ordering a bottle of wine only to have james do the tasting. it's fine if he orders it...but i get cranky when i've said i want it, and they let him taste it. it has probably only happened once or twice, but man, does it annoy me!!! back to the wine...yes, an incredible fragrance, and such a perfect pair for both the cod, and the veal i ordered. i know...red with fish, but it worked!! btw, when you go there, you're really going to want to order wine. zagat has rated them the 3rd highest rated wine list in the sf area.

james ordered the oysters, and i'm sitting there staring at my menu for something for myself since i cannot stand anything about oysters. i hate the taste and especially the rubber feeling in my mouth. the waiter speaks up and says that he does not like fish, and especially oysters, and that i should give them a try. i'm thinking to myself...all right, buddy, but if this doesn't work out, you're bringing me something i WILL eat!! they come out, and don't look anything like what i expected. they were fried up, and tasted like a delicate light fish with a small hint of butter and lemon. below, there was a piece of pork in a black vinegar sauce which sounds odd if you're never had it, but really complemented the oysters quite nicely. i don't know if i'll ever eat regular oysters again, but i enjoyed these so much that i would have eaten them all if i could have!!

for our main course, james had the cod, and i had the crispy veal sweetbreads. i'm glad i was ignorant to what exactly veal sweetbreads were as i was eating them, but they were amazing, and i'd do it again now, knowing how great they tasted!! the truffle oil sauce below was perfect, as there wasn't a whole lot to overpower the taste of the crispy sweetbread. james' cod was AH MAY ZING, and you have to order it if you ever go. it absolutely melted in your mouth, and the shrimp dumplings were so yummy!!!

i loved the portion sizes at terra, because it wasn't totally snotty where they only serve you a few bites, but it was enough for your dinner. i did save room for dessert...WOOHOO...and got the hot chocolate and churros while james had the tiramisu. james really liked his dessert, while i'm not a tiramisu fan, could appreciate his happy face. my churros were perfect, and the hot chocolate tasted like they melted belgian truffles in my cup. omgomgomg, sooo delish!!

after our meal, james asked me how it compared to fresh cream, which is easily one of my favorite meals. i told him that this was the best meal i've ever had...and how i wasn't expecting it to be when i walked in!! so the next time you've got some time when you're in napa, go go go and eat eat eat!! <3

the next day, we drove up to calistoga, and just east of that area for a while. on the way back, we ended up finding a nice mile walk/hike to where robert louis stevenson had a cabin. random. it was incredibly beautiful and green as we walked in, and james and i had such a great time taking in the scenery. once we were at the top of that point, there was another 4 mile hike...like real hike...up to the top summit. i was wearing cute clothes and cons which isn't your typical hiking gear, so i kindly suggested we walk back down. we looked up at the sky, and there was an ominous rain cloud and chilly winds, so we headed down the trail. it ended up raining that night, and snowing the next day!! i really wasn't kidding when i said it was a bit chilly!! :)

after that, we stopped at the calistoga inn for some food and football. we heard from jenna that they had the best burger in the area, so i was ready!! it honestly was the best burger i had ever tasted, and urge all burger fans to drive there to get their burger on. it tasted like ground kobe beef, and i couldn't get enough. i usually don't finish eating burgers when i order them cause they're so big, but believe me, i ate that WHOLE thing. so good!! after that, we watched the pats win (yawn) and headed back to our room to watch the packers...sniff sniff..lose in OT. that's all i want to say about that or i will be flung back into my deep football depression!! *sobs*

for dinner, i wasn't feeling too hungry after that amazing burger, but we did end up going out to cindy's backstreet kitchen. it's a really cute restaurant that is slighty a kitchen and slightly a napa restaurant. i had the ahi salad which was num num (that's yummy in jeannette-speak), while james had the duck burger. they also served a rabbit tostada, but i was sort of red-meated out at that point, and that just sounded really odd to me. at any rate, it was a great meal, and a fun spot.

the next day, we came back in the pouring rain on 101. we decided to stop at boudin's at fisherman's wharf to get us some clam chowder in breadbowls, cause it was certainly that type of weather outside!! i am sure i gained 300 pounds on this getaway, but it was totally worth it for the delicious food i consumed. it was so relaxing and fun with james, and i had a blast!!

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)

sometimes i just want to pause time and spend it with the ones i love. life is incredibly short, and i wish i could spend it with family members for a long time. there is so much wisdom to be learned, and i have a short time to absorb it all. <3 <3 <3
