because i hate it when sports writers are wrong...

my mom showed me an article in the sports section of the argus today, and i really had to laugh out loud. some writer basically said that stanford football isn't winning because they are an academic school. excuse me?? it's not like they've never been to a bowl game, stat boy.

i had to reply...and i did via email back to the paper. see below. (i had a limit of 100 words, or i really would have made about 400 other points. promise.)

Art Spander's article on how Stanford is "an academic institution, not an athletic factory" on Sunday, October 15, 2006 was laughable. As a true blue Cal fan, it pains me to point out that Stanford has won 12 consecutive Directors' Cup titles. The Directors' Cup is awarded to the school with the top overall athletic program.

Stanford football may not be winning games, but don't forget where Cal was during the 2001 season: 1-10. It's quite obvious that Stanford is going through a drought, and the blame does not need to be placed on such an erroneous generalization.

p.s. it was really hard not to type stanFUrd each time, but i was a good girl. :)
